One Mad Phan's Journey to Rewrite a Great Wrong

BioFondest greetings to you all,
For those who do not know me, my name is Christi, known generally in the phan community as LadyCDaae. I've loved "Phantom of the Opera" in all its various forms for the better part of fifteen years, so I'm very much an "old-school" phan. I have a life (librarian) and other interests (SCA, fantasy, Cirque du Soleil, to name a few) as well, but they don't come into play here. This journal was created for one specific purpose: to chronicle my attempt to write an "alternate" screenplay for Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical version of PotO.
Okay, I know what you (some of you, anyway) are thinking: "Who does she think she is, trying to rewrite the 2004 movie? The movie was perfect--I LOVED the movie!" Well, see, here's the thing: I didn't. Okay, I thought it had certain value as a comedy, but that obviously wasn't the intention. And it wasn't just that I didn't like the cast--okay, I HATED the cast (with the possible exception of Patrick Wilson), but that was only part of the problem. More importantly, I felt the project was already deeply flawed on the screenplay level. Many of the ideas introduced either made no sense to me, or contradicted the way I saw the story and characters, or were just plain silly (what was up with the Mini-Piangi, anyway?). It just simply wasn't "Phantom of the Opera" as I knew and loved it.
Not long after subjecting myself to the film, I was listening to my OLC, and another movie began to take shape inside of me--one that tapped into what drew me to POTO in the first place. Eventually, it took on a life of its own, and started beating me over the head and screaming "WRITE ME DOWN!" How could I refuse?
So, who do I think I am? Well, I like to think of myself as another phanfic writer, sharing her own peculiar vision with her fellows. If you're amenable to that, I bid you welcome.
